Do Catholics Still Believe the Jews Are Chosen? Christ’s Fulfillment, Not Flattery

No, the Jews don’t get a free pass.

But no, they aren’t your scapegoat either.

They were chosen. They are still chosen.

But “chosen” was never about racial privilege. It was about covenant responsibility.

If you’re mocking the Jews, you’ve misunderstood salvation.

If you’re idolizing them, you’ve misunderstood the Church.

I. What the Church Actually Teaches

Let’s cut through the half-truths and trad reaction videos.

The covenant God made with the Jewish people has never been revoked.” —Pope St. John Paul II, quoting Romans 11:29

“Indeed, the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable.”—Romans 11:29

The Church… awaits the day known to God alone when all peoples will address the Lord in a single voice.” —Nostra Aetate, 4

So do Catholics believe the Jews are still chosen?

Yes—chosen to one day accept the Messiah they rejected.

Chosen to still carry the mystery of the first covenant.

Not chosen in a political sense. Not chosen over the Church.

II. The Church Is the Fulfilled Israel

Let’s be precise:

Old Israel = The People of the First Covenant

New Israel = The Church of the New Covenant, through Christ

The Church is the new Israel, the new People of God.” —CCC 877

We are not “replacing” Israel.

We are the fruit of it.

The apostles didn’t stop being Jews.

They became fulfilled Jews by entering the Church Christ founded.

And you, as a Catholic, are grafted into that same vine —Romans 11:17

So no—Judaism didn’t become obsolete.

But Christ made it complete.

The Jews carry our books. They read aloud the words that give us life. Even in their blindness, they are custodians of our Scripture.” —St. Augustine, City of God, Book 18

III. Why the Jews Still Matter

God’s covenant with the Jews wasn’t a contract.

It was a blood oath.

Their role in salvation history can’t be deleted.

You read their prophets.

You worship their Messiah.

You eat the flesh of their King at every Mass.

You are saved by a Jewish bloodline.

Don’t forget that while scrolling Telegram.

And yet—without Christ, no man is saved. Jew or Gentile.

“There is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” —Acts 4:12

That’s the tension:

The Jews are still chosen.

But only through Christ are they saved. And the Church is now the vessel of that salvation.

IV. What This Means for You

1. Don’t fall for Zionist flattery

• Judaism without Christ is incomplete

• Political Israel is not sacred

• Modern Judaism ≠ Moses. It’s post-Temple Rabbinic Judaism

• Christ didn’t die to preserve a theocracy

2. Don’t fall for conspiratorial hatred

• Antisemitism is a mortal sin

• Mocking the Jews mocks Mary, Christ, and the prophets

• You’re saved by a Jewish Messiah who wept over Jerusalem

3. Don’t use “chosen” as a weapon

• You were grafted in by mercy, not merit —Romans 11:20

• The Jews are still part of the story—wounded, not erased

V. So… Are the Jews Still God’s Chosen People?

Yes. But not like you think.

They are still:

• Honored as the first to receive the Law

• Revered as the lineage of Christ

• Loved by the Father for the sake of their forefathers —Romans 11:28

But they are not:

• Saved apart from Christ

• Exempt from conversion

• Immune to error

The Church is now the Ark.

The Jews are still part of the story.

But the door is Christ. And many have yet to walk through it.

Final Word: You Are Grafted. Act Like It.

You’re not better. You’re not smarter. You’re just redeemed.

Not because of your race or your research.

But because Christ had mercy on you.

Do not boast over the branches. If you do, remember: you do not support the root. The root supports you.” —Romans 11:18

You want clarity?

• The Jews are still chosen.

• The Church is their fulfillment.

• Christ is the only name that saves.

• And you were grafted in by grace, not superiority.

So stop talking like you’re owed anything.

Start praying that the elder brothers come home.
